Mr. Stagg

asked the Minister for Energy (a) the combined net profit or loss before tax and financing charges (b) the combined net profit or loss before tax (c) the Government subventions and (d) the numbers employed in each of the following commercial semi-State bodies, INPC, ESB, BGE and Bord na Móna, for each of the years 1980 to 1986 inlcusive.

The following are the figures as set out in the annual report and accounts of INPC, BGE, Bord na Móna and ESB, under the various headings:—

(c) No Government subventions are paid to fund the operations of these commercial State bodies, with the exception of INPC. In 1984, INPC received a grant-in-aid of £10 million this being a once-off payment to purchase and refurbish the Whitegate refinery. In 1986, £450,000 was paid to the INPC by way of grant-in-aid in respect of care and maintenance at the Whiddy Island oil terminal.
