Vol. 376 No. 2

Written Answers. - Job Statistics.

24.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of jobs provided for Irish people from (a) the bilateral aid programme (b) the multi-lateral aid programme (c) non-bilateral aid programme development co-operation programmes involving (i) State-sponsored agencies (ii) higher education (iii) private companies; and the number of these jobs which will be lost as a result of the cutbacks in overseas development aid announced in the Estimates for 1988.

The latest figures available are as follows:

(a) 580; (b) 90¹

In relation to (c) (i) the 1986 DEVCO Annual Report gives a figure of 1,221; (c) (ii) ACDC estimate 4 and (c) (iii) there are no figures available.

It is not anticipated that there will be any of these jobs lost as a result of the cutbacks in official development assistance announced in the estimates for 1988.

¹Estimated figure. A number of Irish nationals holding positions in these organisations would have been recruited outside of Ireland and there would not be a record of them.

The above figures do not include Civil Service posts.
