Garda records are not maintained with reference to postal districts and it would not be possible to provide the information requested in the format sought without the commitment of a disproportionate amount of Garda time. In addition, Garda statistics in this matter are compiled on an annual basis and, therefore, statistics in respect of 1987 are not available at this stage.
The information which is readily available relates to the total number of persons in the Dublin metropolitan area convicted of unlawful possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply and the relevant figures for each of the years 1984-1986 are 45, 85 and 101 respectively. Convictions obtained in any one year may relate to prosecutions taken in previous years.
