Vol. 376 No. 7

Written Answers. - Roscommon Drainage Works Funding.

61.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will approve a proposal by Roscommon County Council to allow 50 per cent of the local improvement scheme allocation to be spent on drainage works; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Exchequer allocations under the local improvements scheme relate solely to farm road projects. This work is eligible for EC grant aid under the western package.

Minor drainage works could come within the scope of the scheme, but this work would not attract EC grants. I do not, therefore, propose to change the present policy along the lines referred to by the Deputy.
