Vol. 376 No. 10

Written Answers. - Christmas Bonus.

88.

asked the Minister for Labour if, in view of the fact that AnCO and CERT trainees are to be paid a Christmas bonus, he will arrange for the payment of a similar bonus to persons who are on social employment schemes; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The social employment scheme is a temporary part time employment scheme, and participants are paid a wage of £60 per half week with the opportunity to undertake additional paid employment during the remainder of the week. Persons who were in receipt of an adult dependant's allowance from the Department of Social Welfare prior to commencement on the scheme are paid an additional allowance of £25 per week. It is not, therefore, proposed to pay a Christmas bonus to participants on the social employment scheme.
