Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Unemployment Assistance.

150.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when unemployment assistance will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Entitlement to unemployment assistance is dependent on a claimant being the holder of a qualification certificate and to obtain such a certificate a claimant must satisfy certain conditions including an assessment of means.

The person concerned claimed unemployment assistance on 22 September 1987 and his papers were referred to a social welfare officer for investigation. The officer is unable to complete the investigation as the person concerned has failed to provide evidence of his means. In particular, he has not disclosed details of his income from self-employment as a plasterer.

Unless the person concerned provides the required information his claim will be disallowed on the grounds that by refusing to furnish details of his means he has failed to show that his means do not exceed the statutory limit applicable in his case.
