Vol. 377 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Rules and Regulations.

64.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the results of his examination, promised in the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 45 of 21 May 1987, of complicated or obsolete rules, regulations or information requirements impacting on industry with a view to their abolition; and if he will give details of the rules, regulations or information requirements abolished to date.

The abolition of complicated or obsolete statutory rules, regulations or information requirements is a matter for the individual Ministers who have functional responsibility for the work of their Departments or agencies and the regulatory requirements administered in that regard. As I indicated in my reply of 21 May 1987, too many rules and regulations contribute to costs in industry. I have had an examination of this matter carried out by the Industrial Costs Monitoring Group and have circulated proposals for a co-ordinated Government programme of action to all Government Departments. I shall be seeking Government approval for this programme shortly.
