Vol. 377 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mullaghroe (Sligo) School.

325.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the urgent need for a one classroom extension to Mullaghroe national school, County Sligo, as this extension was promised almost 20 years ago when Cloonanure national school was closed and the schools amalgamated and the prefab building used to cater for the extra pupils is now long past the normal acceptable lifespan of such buildings; if she will provide money for the extension in 1988; if not, when moneys will be made available; and if she will make a statement on her attitude towards alleviating the accommodation needs of the school and on its rights and entitlements arising from the amalgamation.

While tender documentation has been prepared for a proposed one classroom extension to Mullaghroe national school, County Sligo, because of the pressure on the capital funds available to my Department for the national schools building programme I have not as yet been in a position to make a capital allocation towards this project or to authorise the invitation of tenders.

I have noted the Deputy's comment on the condition of the prefabricated classroom used by the school and will ask my Department's professional advisers to investigate the position and to say what work they might recommend to be carried out by way of short term relief with suitable grant assistance from my Department pending the provision of an extra permanent classroom as proposed.
