Vol. 377 No. 2

Written Answers. - Unleaded Petrol Production.

63.

asked the Minister for Energy when he envisages that unleaded petrol will be in production in Ireland; and whether he plans to eliminate the use of leaded petrol.

Unleaded petrol is available at a number of sites in Ireland. While tests have indicated the technical feasibility of producing unleaded petrol at the Whitegate refinery there are no immediate plans to do so.

Leaded petrol will continue to be required for vehicles which cannot be adapted to run on unleaded petrol and there are no plans to eliminate it from the market.
