Vol. 377 No. 2

Written Answers. - Road Marking Funds.

73.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he made payment to any local authorities for road marking in 1987.

In conjunction with the allocation of road grants annually, local authorities are asked by my Department to provide roadway markings where warranted.

Road grants are not, however, paid to local authorities specifically for road markings. Expenditure by local authorities on road markings may, in the case of national roads, be charged against grants for national road maintenance, and in the case of regional or urban roads be charged against block grants.
