Vol. 377 No. 3

Written Answers. - Income Tax Demand.

41.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason a person (details supplied) in County Louth continues to receive demands for £2,989 when she has on several occasions, notified the inspector of taxes that her only income is her social welfare old age non-contributory pension; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that she has been advised that unless she pays this sum she will be subject to enforced recovery by the sheriff with costs or court proceedings, and that this has caused this elderly lady great concern.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the inspector of taxes did not receive any notification from the taxpayer that she had transferred her farm to her son. The inspector only became aware of this fact in the recent past following his own inquiries in the matter which revealed that the transfer had taken place about 10 years ago.

The inspector has arranged for the discharge of the assessments for the current year and all previous years extending back to 1978-79. No further assessments will be raised on the taxpayer.
