Vol. 377 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Kildare By-pass.

99.

asked the Minister for the Environment his intentions regarding the request from Kildare County Council for sanction of the N4 by-pass (Leixlip-Kilcock) scheme; if he intends sanction to issue in the near future; if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for the immediate provision of the motorway in question; if he will make the necessary funds available for the initial stages of the project to proceed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I expect to be in a position to give a decision on the Lucan-Kilcock motorway scheme very soon. Without prejudice to this decision, the timing of construction of the scheme is being considered in the context of the preparation of a blueprint for road development which I intend to publish within the next few months.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he intends to sanction a motorway scheme to enable the proposed Newbridge-Kilcullen by-pass (details supplied) in County Kildare to proceed; if he will allocate sufficient funds for the matter in 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 1 December 1987, a motorway scheme for the proposed Kilcullen Link Motorway was submitted by Kildare County Council for my approval. The relevant statutory procedures require that a public local inquiry be held into all aspects of the scheme. Public notice will be given and objectors to the scheme will be advised of the arrangements for the holding of the inquiry as soon as they have been finalised.

While a special road grant has not been allocated this year for the scheme, it is open to the local authority to request a transfer from grants notified for other schemes to meet any preconstruction costs which may arise (subject to the figures) on this scheme during the year.
