Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Voluntary Redundancy.

129.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce in relation to the taking up of voluntary redundancy by public servants in State or semi-State agencies, the indications to date with regard to the numbers, grades and financial implications of such take-up; if he has satisfied himself that the work heretofore being carried out by such voluntarily retiring public servants can now be properly reassigned and carried out; and if he will give this information in respect of each individual agency, especially those relating to industrial strategy and promotion.

The Deputy will appreciate that I do not have available to me the details requested in respect of all public servants. However, the information relating to the staff of my Department and the semi-State agencies under its aegis who have to date taken up the Government's voluntary redundancy scheme introduced in August 1987 for non-commercial semi-State bodies and in November 1987 for civil servants over the age of 50, is set out in the following tabular statement:

¹IIRS and NBST were amalgamated into one body, Eolas — the Irish Science and Technology Agency, on 1 January 1988.

Responsibility for implementing this package rests with the management of the various agencies concerned, who, I am satisfied, are organising their resources in such a way as to ensure that they are capable of achieving their objectives.
