Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Dublin Bay Pollution.

137.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has satisfied himself that the levels of water pollution in Dublin Bay do not constitute a danger to public health; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Extensive monitoring of the waters in Dublin Bay is carried out by the local authorities and by the Eastern Health Board. I am advised that the health board has recently confirmed its view, as given on numerous previous occasions, that the waters do not constitute a danger to public health. The satisfactory condition of the bay is confirmed by the survey and monitoring programme initiated in June, 1986, by An Foras Forbartha as part of the preparation of a water quality management plan for the bay. This programme is continuing.
