Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Cork Road Repairs Funding.

168.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the very severe weather in recent weeks, he will make an extra allocation of funds to Cork County Council for the repair of flood damage to roads and bridges as was done in past years.

The provisions available for road grants during 1988 have been fully allocated and there are no other sources of finance available to me from which additional grants could now be made. However, it is likely that a high proportion of any necessary restoration work would qualify for assistance under one of the following road grants already notified to the local authority for 1988: national road maintenance, £1,599 million; county road strengthening, £2.04 million; block grant, £1.89 million.
