Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Death of Animal.

221.

asked the Minister for Defence where responsibility rests in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Mayo where a low flying Air Corps helicopter caused animals to stampede resulting in the death by heart attack of an animal valued at £700, which matter has been officially clarified by a veterinary report.

Limerick West): While it is not unusual for animals to take fright from aircraft flying close to their location, every effort is made by Air Corps pilots to avoid such disturbances. The helicopter in question flew at normal navigational height of 1,000 feet and was not low-flying.

The pilot did not notice any disturbance of animals while carrying out normal observation procedures.
