Vol. 377 No. 6

Written Answers - Disabled Person's Maintenance Allowance Regulations.

22.

asked the Minister for Health if he will amend the disabled person's maintenance allowance regulations of 1984 so that an allowance payable thereunder is not reduced when the spouse of the recipient finds employment and thereby bring the regulations into line with payments made under the social welfare code.

Section 69 of the Health Act, 1970, provides that a health board shall pay such an allowance to a disabled person where neither the person nor the person's spouse, if any, is able to provide for his maintenance. I have no plans for the introduction of amending legislation on the lines suggested by the Deputy.
