Vol. 377 No. 7

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Community School.

88.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to (a) the serious problems arising from the fact that St. Kevin's community college, Quarryvale, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, has to transport students by bus, as a temporary measure, to the old vocational school in Lucan, County Dublin (b) the serious lack of heat in many of the classrooms especially the portakabin (c) the serious lack of facilities and in particular adequate open space (d) the inconvenience caused when children arrive late for the bus thereby missing a day at school, or if children get sick during the school day and (e) the fact that, in view of the numbers coming on-stream from the local primary schools, within a short period there will be totally insufficient class space for the numbers proposed; if, in view of those facts, she will now proceed with the construction of a new community college at Quarryvale, Clondalkin, Dublin 22; if, in the meantime, she will make immediate provision for extra heat in the school for the remainder of the present winter; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

St. Kevin's community college is under the aegis of County Dublin Vocational Education Committee and is at present housed in the old vocational school, Lucan. Neither I nor my Department is aware of any of the problems mentioned by the Deputy and I am satisfied, from inquiries made from the committee that there are no grounds for complaints regarding these matters. The question of the provision of new buildings for St. Kevin's community college is currently receiving attention within my Department.
