Written Answers. - Revenue Staff Accommodation.

70.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will give details of the report compiled by the IIRS in December, 1987 of the state of the heating and air conditioning system in the Collector General's Office, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2; if he will give a comparison with the results for the previous similar study; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The IIRS report of December 1987 indicated regarding the heating and air conditioning system that: General Ventilation —"The fresh air intake is located on the roof, and is not being contaminated to any significant degree by local sources. The fresh air is filtered, heated and humidified in a satisfactory manner before entering the building"; Thermal Comfort —"Air movements were in general found to be within the recommended range (0.10 to 0.25 m/s) to avoid complaints of draughts. Temperatures were found to be satisfactorily steady and in general within desirable limits".

I have placed in the Oireachtas Library, for the Members' information, copies of the IIRS reports of March 1986 and December 1987. It is not possible to give a meaningful comparison of the two reports within the parameters of a written reply such as this. Such comparison can best be made by a study of the reports. It will be seen, however, that the report of December 1987, states: "Overall the conditions have improved considerably since our previous report of March 1986".
