Vol. 378 No. 3

Written Answers. - Departmental Payments.

82.

asked the Minister for Energy the total amount of any grants of other moneys due to be paid directly or indirectly by his Department in 1987 which were held over for payment; the reason for such delay; and when the arrears or backlog will be cleared.

Details of the grants due to be paid directly or indirectly by my Department at the end of 1987 were given by me in a written reply to a question by Deputies John Bruton and Ted Nealon on 2 February 1988. There has been no undue delay in making these payments. It is in the nature of on-going grant schemes that some payments, approved towards the end of the year, are not made until the following year. Payment has since been made of all the tree planting grants and approximately £130,000 of the private bog development grants. The remaining such grants will be paid shortly. Payment of the fuel efficiency survey grants must await the receipt of certain follow-up information from the applicants. Any other moneys due at the end of 1987 were part of the on-going costs of running the Department and calculating them would involve an inordinate amount of official time.
