Vol. 378 No. 4

Written Answers. - RUC Interrogation Procedures.

40.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs his views on the interrogation procedures adopted by the RUC in the case of persons (details supplied): if he will make representations to the Northern Secretary in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The allegation of intimidation in police custody in this case has been raised through the Anglo-Irish Secretariat. I will communicate with the Deputy in due course on the outcome of these representations.

I am, of course, concerned by allegations of illegal or improper treatment of people in police custody in Northern Ireland and I can assure the Deputy that this is an area which is kept under constant and close scrutiny by the Government.
