Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Safety and Health Standards.

254.

asked the Minister for Labour if he has studied the booklet published by the Association of Electrical Contractors (Ireland) Ltd.; if he will make a statement on Government policy in relation to its contents; and if he will indicate whether it is proposed to introduce legislation to deal with the matters contained therein.

I am aware of the booklet mentioned by the Deputy. My responsibilities as defined in several statutes relate solely to the health and safety of workers.

I welcome any proposals which seek to improve safety and health standards and from this viewpoint the AECI booklet is being examined by my Department.

I have no proposals at this time to amend the Factories (Electricity) Regulations, 1972, which regulate the use of electricity in factories.
