asked the Minister for Education the projected number of teachers who will leave the primary teaching service through natural retirement on age grounds for each of the next five years; the number of primary teachers on average who resign from the service each year because of disability; and the number of primary teachers who resigned without a pension.

The number of national teachers due to retire, having reached the age limit is as follows:—

The average number of national teachers who resigned from the service, on the grounds of disability, each year in the period 1980 to 1987, was 24.

The average number of national teachers who leave the service each year, without a pension is 470. However, many of these re-enter the service at a later stage.
