Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) School Facilities.

293.

asked the Minister for Education her proposals for the provision of extra facilities at St. Corban's Church of Ireland school, Naas, County Kildare; whether she proposes to provide the required facilities; the timescale whereby it is envisaged to provide these facilities; whether the extension proposed is to be of a permanent or a temporary nature; the expected local contribution in this case; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have under consideration at present, a report from their professional advisers regarding a recent meeting with the authorities of the Church of Ireland national school, Naas, County Kildare, to discuss their application for grant-aid towards the cost of providing a new school building to replace their existing unsuitable school. On the basis of that report it is expected that a sketch scheme for a suitable replacement building to serve the long term needs will be prepared by my Department for the consideration of the school authorities. I am not in a position at this stage to give a timescale for the completion of the architectural planning of the development, but I can assure the Deputy that the matter will be handled as expeditiously as possible.

The local contribution will in due course be a matter for negotiation with the school authorities. It is not the practice of my Department, however, to disclose the financial details of individual projects the subject of grant applications, as such information is considered to be confidential as between the school authorities and my Department.
