Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - European Regional Development Fund.

95.

asked the Minister for Finance the present position in regard to the proposal that 75 per cent of the total cost of European Regional Development Fund projects be provided by the Community; if it has been discussed at the recent meeting of the European Council; if he expects it to be discussed at the next meeting in Brussels; and his assessment of the prospects of its adoption.

I would refer the Deputy to the Taoiseach's statement to the House on 16 February on the outcome of the recent meeting of the European Council (Cols. 2262-2269). As set out in the "Draft Conclusions" document to which the Taoiseach referred in that statement and which had been laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas, Community assistance from the structural funds will be subject to a maximum of 75 per cent of total cost in the regions defined for action under Objective No. 1, i.e. the less-developed regions.
