Vol. 378 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts.

101.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will introduce an amendment to the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts to accommodate those affected by the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 1986; and the steps which are open to a person (details supplied) in America.

Under the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Acts, 1956 and 1986 the greatgrandchild of an Irish born person may be registered in the foreign births register only if he or she were born after the date of registration of the parent. The 1986 Act provided a grace period of six months from 1 July 1986 within which persons previously entitled to register could do so. I have no proposal to change the relevant provisions nor could I advise as to how individuals are affected by the law.
