Vol. 378 No. 10

Written Answers. - Immigration Control Arrangements.

88.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will set up an immigration court at Shannon, County Clare as a pilot scheme to more extensive legislation; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no power to set up any court within the meaning of the Constitution.

As I have indicated on a number of occasions in this House, I could not, in response to parliamentary questions, say what legislative proposals if any I might have in particular areas. In the normal course such proposals are announced only after Government approval has been obtained. However, I can say that I am satisfied that the existing arrangements for immigration control are broadly adequate and I have no plans for amending legislation in that area.
