asked the Minister for Energy the present position in relation to Bord Gáis Éireann and its acquisition of Dublin Gas Company; if all of the necessary legal procedures have been completed; if he will in the context of the overall programme for Bord Gáis Éireann indicate when it is expected that Dublin Gas will have a modernised gas grid in place in the Dublin region; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Bord Gáis Éireann acquired the assets of Dublin Gas on 3 November 1987. All of the legal procedures were completed on that date.
In accordance with the recommendations of the various reports which I arranged to have published in 1987, there have already been major improvements to the gas network and the remaining items will be completed within the recommended three year time scale. I issued an extensive statement on this matter on 5 January 1988.
