Vol. 378 No. 10

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

132.

asked the Minister for the Environment the total number of approved applicants for local authority houses at the latest date; and the estimated completions of local authority houses in 1988 as provided for in the public capital programme.

In accordance with usual practice, each housing authority was requested at the end of 1987 to submit to my Department details of approved applicants for local authority housing at 31 December 1987. While returns are still outstanding from a small number of authorities, the estimated number of approved applicants for local authority housing at 31 December 1987 was about 19,000.

It is expected that the number of local authority houses to be completed this year will be about 1,600, reflecting the downturn in demand for local authority houses.
