Vol. 378 No. 11

Written Answers. - Pirate Radio Stations.

49.

asked the Minister for Communications the number of pirate stations which he has closed down during the past six months; the grounds on which each of these stations closed down; and whether he plans similar action against other stations where similar conditions apply in advance of the passage of the new sound broadcasting legislation.

In the past six months action was taken against one illegal broadcasting station by my Department on foot of a court order. Summonses have been issued as a result. The matter is, therefore, sub judice.

Apparatus for wireless telegraphy used by any illegal broadcasting station is liable to seizure and its operators to prosecution under current legislation, at any time.
