Vol. 378 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dargle River (Bray) Fish-Kill.

50.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give details of the fish-kill which occurred in the Dargle River at Bray, County Wicklow during the week beginning 29 February 1988; the reason for the fish-kill; the action taken by his Department; the prosecutions which are planned as a result; the number of fish which were killed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I understand that the Eastern Regional Fisheries Board received a report on the evening of 2 March of a fish kill in the Cookstown River (a tributary of the River Dargle) at Enniskerry. The board's water pollution officer investigated the matter early on 3 March. Samples have been taken and analysed and the board are currently considering whether or not a prosecution is sustainable in this case. Details of the number of fish killed are not available.
