Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Motor Car Insurance.

120.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a statement regarding suggestions made in a submission received by Deputy Michael Keating in relation to motor car insurance (details supplied); and whether he has any proposals for changes in the legislation or regulations in this area.

I have no plans to introduce amending legislation in the specific area of motor insurance referred to by the Deputy, nor do I have any plans to set up State run driving schools. The commercially run driving schools are available for those seeking driving tuition in preparation for driving tests. While the driving test establishes a basic competence to drive safely, it is generally accepted that experience in driving is an essential element in the make up of a fully competent driver.
