Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cork Roads Maintenance.

138.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of his statement that potholes are a thing of the past, he will make funds available to Cork Corporation to repair the potholes in Tramore Lawn, Douglas Road, Cork.

I understand that the road involved is a minor urban road. The appropriate source of State road grant financing for the maintenance of minor urban roads, including the repair of potholes, is the block grant. A block grant of £621,000 has been notified to Cork Corporation for 1988.

139.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will make a 100 per cent grant available to Cork Corporation for the reconstruction of Lavitts Quay, Cork as it connects two national primary routes, the N20 and N22.

The approved cost of works for the reconstruction of the section of Lavitts Quay immediately adjoining Christy Ring bridge will be recouped in full by road grants. The length of quay involved is 87 metres. A road grant allocation of £500,000, has been notified to Cork Corporation to meet expenditure arising on this section during 1988.

The question of a special road grant contribution towards the cost of approved works on further sections of Lavitts quay will be considered when the road grants for 1989 are being determined, due regard being had to the overall level of funding available for this type of work in 1989 and the competing demands for other schemes in this category.
