Vol. 379 No. 1

Written Answers. - Children's Heart Surgery.

39.

asked the Minister for Health the results of his investigation into the waiting list for heart surgery in Our Lady's Hospital for sick children in Crumlin, Dublin 12; and the action he proposes to take as a result.

Our Lady's Hospital has agreed to carry out an urgent review of the staffing and facilities in the intensive care and special care units and its utilisation of theatres to explore ways of increasing the throughput of patients.

Officials of my Department are having exploratory discussions with other hospitals to establish how they can immediately assist reducing the waiting lists.

Pending the outcome of these discussions and reviews, I am not in a position to say precisely how the waiting lists will be reduced. The Deputy can be assured that this matter is being dealt with as a priority.
