Vol. 379 No. 2

Written Answers. - Free Spectacles Application.

85.

asked the Minister for Health if, in view of the facts of a case (details supplied) in Dublin 15 he will confirm that the child concerned is entitled to free spectacles; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Optical appliances are normally supplied by the health boards to medical card holders and their dependants and also to pre-school and national school children where a slight defect has been noted at a developmental paediatric clinic or school health examination operated by the health boards.

The health board cannot trace an application for spectacles from the person named in this case and could not give a final decision on entitlement to spectacles without a formal application.
