Vol. 379 No. 3

Written Answers. - Green Pound Devaluation.

71.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the scope available for price increases through green pound devaluation in relation to (1) milk (2) beef and (3) cereals; the effect on each sector of full green pound devaluation; and his proposals in that regard.

Current Irish MCAs are as follows: milk and milk products, 3.5 per cent; beef, 2 per cent; cereals, 3.6 per cent. The abolition of these MCAs through green rate devaluations would lead to equivalent increases in prices in the sectors concerned. While the Commission's proposals for 1988-89 prices have not yet been announced, I will be pressing strongly for the abolition of existing MCAs in the forthcoming round of discussions.
