Vol. 379 No. 4

Written Answers. - Visit of Austrian President.

18.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if an invitation has been extended to the President of Austria to pay a visit to the Republic of Ireland in 1988 following the recent visit to Austria by President Hillery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland has long maintained good and friendly relations with Austria and will continue to do so.

In the course of his State visit to Austria in April 1986 the President, Dr. Hillery, in accordance with the normal diplomatic courtesies, extended to his host the Austrian President, Dr. Kirchschlaeger, an invitation to visit Ireland.

After leaving office Dr. Kirchschlaeger paid a private visit to Ireland in March 1987 when he and his wife were the guests of President and Mrs. Hillery.

There are no plans for an official visit to Ireland by the current President of Austria.
