Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - Relocation of Driver Testers.

205.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason the regional headquarters of driving testers has been moved from Cork to Limerick in view of the fact that substantially more driving testers are based in Cork; the reason Cork, the country's second largest city, is without driving testers; and the cost to the taxpayer of driving testers going from Cork to Limerick on a regular basis.

Cork city is still the headquarters of a region comprising Counties Cork and Kerry and parts of west Waterford and south Tipperary. Nine driver testers operate in this area of which five are headquartered in Cork city. However, the demands made on the testing service throughout the country are not constant and require a degree of movement by testers outside their base areas from time to time. Similarly, changes in regional boundaries and in the location of regional headquarters may be necessary from time to time in the interests of the efficient management of the service. At present, the regional arrangements are being reviewed.
