Vol. 379 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Industrial Complex.

81.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has satisfied himself that the area in the region of and including the East Road Industrial Complex, East Wall, Dublin 3, is adequately policed; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that several businesses have left the area allegedly as a result of vandalism and break-ins; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The precise arrangements for the policing of individual areas are a matter for the Garda authorities who inform me that the East Wall area receives regular attention from foot and mobile patrols operated by both uniformed and plain clothes units from Store Street station and that it also receives attention from the Crime Task Force and other specialist units.

The Garda authorities are not in a position to confirm that firms have left the area for the reasons suggested in the question. I am informed that the gardaí at Store Street frequently give crime prevention advice to business people in the East Wall area and that Garda advice and co-operation in this regard is readily available at all times. The Garda will continue to give the area as much attention as possible having regard to overall resources and other demands on Garda services.
