Vol. 379 No. 8

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 15, 16, 17 and 18.

Will the Minister indicate on behalf of the Government, in view of the declared intent by both the Irish and British Governments to co-operate and promote economic development both North and South, if they will contact the British Government and urge them to support the proposed cruise liner development in Belfast?

Deputy De Rossa, that is clearly not in order now.

A Cheann Comhairle——

The Deputy must desist forthwith.

A Cheann Comhairle, please——

The matter does not relate to legislation now or pending. Therefore it is not in order.

May I raise the matter on the Adjournment then?

The Deputy should have addressed the Chair in that respect. He should have addressed me in that regard in the first instance. I will communicate with the Deputy.

You have not heard my question. May I complete my question?

The Deputy is overdoing it.

Could I ask, therefore, if it is not in order for the Government to respond here this morning, if you will allow me to raise on the Adjournment this evening the question I raised in view of the urgent need to protect jobs in Belfast east and west and to deal with unemployment——

The Deputy may not make a speech now. He is seeking to raise this matter on the Adjournment. Am I clear about that?

I will communicate with him.

Have the Government any proposals to institute the parliamentary tier which was envisaged for the meeting of Members of the Dáil and Members of the House of Commons as part of the Anglo-Irish Agreement?

That is not a legislative matter.

Will they provide time for the purpose of discussing this?

On the question of providing time for the purpose of discussion on it, that matter can be dealt with by the Whips.

I have expressed an interest in the matter and I hope it will be pursued. Can the Minister elaborate further on the indication given by the Taoiseach last Tuesday that he will be pursuing the expediting of the Companies (No. 2) Bill through the Seanad? Is there any further progress in that matter in view of the Taoiseach's interest?

That is relevant.

I understand the Seanad is resuming next week and I am sure the Taoiseach will follow up on what he assured the Deputy on this Bill.

As a Deputy representing South Tipperary, Sir, you will appreciate that as Minister for Agriculture I put considerable areas of that constituency through the disadvantaged areas scheme and I am asking you once again to allow me to raise on the Adjournment the question of putting additional areas in County Waterford into the disadvantaged areas scheme.

(Interruptions.)

I am aware of the Deputy's interest. I will communicate with the Deputy, but he will appreciate that I have many requests for Adjournment debates and I can choose only one subject matter.

This is my ninth time to raise it.

A Deputy

He did not know the difference between the left side of the road and the right side of the road.

I seek your permission once again to raise on the Adjournment the possible formulation of an integrated plan for County Kildare and adjoining counties the object of which would be to provide EC funding for infrastructural purposes.

I will communicate with Deputy Durkan in respect of that matter.
