Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Dublin Open Prison.

43.

asked the Minister for Justice if the purpose for which Shanganagh Castle, County Dublin, was set up, as an open prison for young offenders, has been altered; and the number of offenders who can be catered for therein.

Shanganagh Castle has been in use as an open centre for young offenders (aged between 16 and 21) since 1968. It can cater for a maximum of 60 offenders. The purpose of the centre has not changed since it was first established.
