Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Jobsearch Programme Statistics.

66.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare in respect of the Dublin north-east constituency the total number of persons who have been found to be not genuinely seeking and available for work under the terms of section 138 (1) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981, since the introduction of the Jobsearch scheme; in relation to the total number (a) the number under 25, (b) the number of males, (c) the number of females and (d) the number of single persons; the number of refusals which were appealed; and the number of appeals which were successful.

It is presumed that the Deputy's question relates to decisions and appeals on claims disallowed because of failure to participate in the Jobsearch programme. Such statistics are not kept on a constituency basis or in such a manner as would enable disallowance decisions arising from the programme and taken under section 138 (1) of the Social Welfare (Consolidation) Act, 1981, to be distinguished from disallowances made under other provisions of the Social Welfare Acts.

In 1987, 1,951 persons had their cases reviewed resulting in disallowances under the Social Welfare Acts. This represented 1.4 per cent of the total of 141,542 interviewed under the programme in 1987.
