Vol. 379 No. 9

Written Answers. - Cork Hospital Complex.

126.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement in relation to recent media reports (details supplied) indicating that a decision had been made with regard to the siting of a new hospital complex for Cork maternity services.

There is agreement in principle between my Department, the Southern Health Board and medical and nursing personnel involved in maternity services in Cork that the amalgamation of the maternity units at St. Finbarr's Hospital and Erinville Hospital would improve the maternity service. The transfer of the remaining service from the Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital later this year and its proximity to Erinville Hospital presents an opportunity to amalgamate on the Erinville/Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital site. Officers of my Department are having discussions with the interests involved regarding the details of the accommodation required for the proposed amalgamation.
