Vol. 379 No. 10

Written Answers. - Industrial Policy.

27.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether such matters as health, safety and life-style in the workplace are considered within his Department in the context of industrial policy and State supports for enterprise.

Responsibility for matters such as health and safety in the workpace rests primarily with the Minister for Labour who is currently drafting new legislation to give effect to the main recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry on Safety, Health and Welfare at Work.

In so far as industrial policy is concerned, my primary interest is to promote measures to improve the business environment and assist industrial development so that the greatest possible number of people can have work which is both safe and attractive.
