Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Social Guarantee Projects.

176.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of money spent on social guarantee training projects expressed as a percentage of all training expenditure for 1987 provided by AnCo.

179.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of trainees on social guarantee courses prior to 17 August 1987.

180.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will outline the follow-on activities provided for participants on training schemes under the social guarantee.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 176, 179 and 180 together as all three refer to the social guarantee.

On 31 July 1987 the closest date to 17 August for which we have detailed returns, 2,183 young people were on programmes under the social guarantee.

Progression is a major objective of the social guarantee, i.e. that young people can progress from the basic designated programmes to mainline training provided by FÁS training centres or by CERT, or to move onto suitable employment schemes. My colleague, the Minister for Education, and I expect to be able to announce shortly a new package of integrated measures for early school leavers.

Approximately 10 per cent of AnCO's 1987 budget was spent on social guarantee participants.
