Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Health Board Officer's Employment.

191.

asked the Minister for Health in times of economic restraint, the way in which he can justify the maintenance supervisor (details supplied) in County Wexford who has been paid in excess of £14,000 per annum since 1977, not being utilised by the South Eastern Health Board according to the terms of his employment; the period for which the South Eastern Health Board intend to allow this inefficiency to continue; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

An officer or servant of a health board appointed under the provisions of section 14 of the Health Act, 1970, holds office on such terms and conditions and shall perform such duties as the chief executive officer from time to time determines.

The conditions of employment including duties of the person referred to by the Deputy is a matter for the chief executive officer of the South-Eastern Health Board. I will have inquiries made with the board concerning the alleged under-utilisation of the officer in question and I will communicate directly with the Deputy at a later date.
