Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Collection Cost.

44.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated cost for collection for 1987 of (1) capital gains tax and (2) capital acquisition tax.

It is not possible to isolate the cost of collecting capital gains tax and capital acquisitions tax from the overall cost of the administration of the inland revenue duties as a whole without undertaking an inquiry which could be carried out only at a disproportionate cost. For the year 1986, the latest year for which statistics are available, the estimated cost of administering inland revenue duties was £75.5 million which is 1.7 per cent of the net receipt of those duties in that year.
