Vol. 380 No. 1

Written Answers. - Sea Anglers Registration.

100.

asked the Minister for the Marine the number of sea anglers who have registered with the Register of Sea Anglers in 1988; the registration charge; and the amount which has been received to date.

The regional fisheries boards have responsibility for establishing and maintaining the "Register of Sea Anglers". The current annual registration fee is £9.50.

In accordance with section 20 (3) of the Fisheries (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1987, any person formerly registered as a trout or coarse fisherman in the Register of Trout, Coarse Fish and Sea Anglers may apply, before 31 May 1988 to be re-registered on the Register of Sea Anglers with effect from 1 January 1988 (the date on which the Fisheries (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, 1987 came into operation). Sea anglers may, of course, register annually as heretofore.

Precise details on the number of sea anglers registered in 1988 are supplied in accordance with established practice by individual regional fisheries boards after the end of the angling season.
