Vol. 380 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Cork School Transport.

180.

asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to provide school transport for children in the Riverstown-Glanmire area of County Cork where the building of a second level school has been put in abeyance.

As the Riverstown-Glanmire area is in the catchment area of Cork city post-primary centre, pupils of this locality, if living at least three miles from the nearest school, are considered eligible for transport to schools in Cork city. Such pupils may also be allowed transport under the scheme to schools in Carrigtwohill-Midleton post-primary centre, from the boundary of that centre only. This facility is allowed subject to spare accommodation being available and to no extra cost being incurred. Sanction for the building of a second level school in this area has not been granted at any time by my Department.
