Written Answers. - EC Tourist Revenue.

53.

asked the Taoiseach the revenue which was earned from tourists from each EC member state in 1987, or the most recent year for which figures are available; and the percentage of total tourist revenue that represents in each case.

The relevant available information, derived from the sample passenger card inquiry for 1987 is as follows.

The estimated revenue (excluding international passenger fare receipts by Irish carriers) from all visitors to Ireland in 1987 was £568 million. Of this an estimated £278 million (49%) was from residents of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; £54 million (10%) was from residents of France and Germany; and £34 million (6%) from residents of the other member states of the European Community.

The total international passenger fare receipts by Irish carriers from visitors to Ireland were £155 million in 1987. It is estimated that £59 million (38%) of this was from residents of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and £27 million (17%) from residents of all the other member states of the European Community.
